Benefits and Challenges of Institutionalizing Peacebuilding and Activism in a Post-Liberal World

Abstract Peace and conflict studies is a normative field that seeks to reduce or eradicate violence. With multiple forms of violence plaguing human society, institutionalization civil society has long been tenet liberal approaches peace intended enhance sustainability policy impact activism. Along with benefits, however, brought it set challenges, including cooptation by donors competition among activists. The article builds on the analysis 14 in-depth interviews, insights gathered from “Rethinking Peace” workshop conducted in Mtsheka, Georgia July 2022, desk research risks benefits activism context peacebuilding South Caucasus rights movement United States. Despite clear contextual differences varying degrees commitment post-liberal peace, highlights striking similarities when comes challenges institutionalization.
